Reema Lagoo was a popular Indian actress. She is known for playing supportive and motherly roles in Hindi and Marathi cinema. During her long acting career she starred in several blockbusters like "Aashiqui", "Maine Pyar Kiya", "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun", "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Hum Saath Saath Hain", , "Kal Ho Na Ho", "Vastaav", "Saajan", "Rangeela" and "Kya Kehna", etc. A versatile actress she also gave notable stage performances and appeared in many teleserials like "Shrimaan Shrimati", "Tu Tu, Main Main," "Do Aur Do Paanch" etc.
Born as Gurinder Bhadbhade in 1958, Reema got initial lessons of acting from her mother Mandakini Bhadbhade who herself was an acclaimed Marathi stage actress. She began her acting stint from her student days in Pune. After completing her education she started getting job offers in Marathi drama and plays. She took the name Reema Lagoo after marrying prominent Marathi actor Vivek Lagoo. Her marriage was short lived as she got separated from her husband only after few years. A major breakthrough in her life came with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988). In this blockbuster she played the role of the mother of actress Juhi Chawla. Her charm was enough to earn her subsequent roles in upcoming movies of Indian cinema. She soon became a hot choice for the role of "understanding mother" on both, the silver and the small screens. In years to come she was seen sharing screen space with many famous Bollywood stars and worked under various prominent banners including Rajshri Productions, Dharma Productions etc.
Reema Lagoo will be ever remembered for playing the role of Salman Khan's mother in Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) and Saajan (1991). She also appeared in motherly role in Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Rangeela (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), and Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). She would easily fit into the role of modern, but understanding mother and so remained a favorite for directors looking to add emotional touch with fun to their movies.
Just like in movies, Reema remained unmatched with her superb roles in television serials. She was seen in prominent roles in "Khandaan", "Shrimaan Shrimati", "Tu Tu, Main Main," "Do Aur Do Paanch" etc. In a career spanning almost four decades, Lagoo gave notable stage performances. In Marathi, she acted in plays like "Ghar Tighanche Have", "Chal Aatap Lavkar", "Jhale Mokle Aakash", "To Ek Kshann", "Purush Buland" and "Vitho Rakhumai", etc.
